A snapshot file (.sna) is a 48K snapshot of the Spectrum's memory.

A tapfile (.tap) contains programs, code, and data just like a real Spectrum audio tape.

I began work on the animated gif above in 1985. The program that plots the frames was published in the Program File section of Personal Computer World in June 1986 along with some Alphacom 32 screendumps.

Unlike some Mickey Mouse animation systems which use stored frames, Globeplotter plots each pixel as you see it and the only stored frame, in the example above, is a map of the world.
